The energies of the soul follow the thoughts of the heart and imagination, the noetic functions of the mind. Some people try to realign the energies of the soul through "energy work".  This will often prove to be ineffective in the long run if the noetic functions are turbulent and/or confused.

Too often we expect to wave our hands over someone, or have them repeat some passages of scripture, or have them talk out their problems as if this were going to immediately correct the energies of the soul.   The noetic powers of the mind have energy of their own, when directed in a focused and healthy way they are life for the whole body.  When these energies are confused and turbulent they swirl out of control like a tornado that catches everything else up in its path.  This tornado of noetic energy is filled with emotional, spiritual and imaginative energy and wreaks havoc on the body, affecting the limbic system and bodily functions.  Anger, envy, fear, and anxiety are examples of the incensive energies spinning out of control while lust, gluttony, covetousness, drunkenness and addiction may be examples of the passive (passions) energies spinning out of control.  Each of these has an effect on the body.  In order to bring peace to the turbulent energies we have to lay a path for the tornadic energy, a path that will give it less to feed on.  We have to venture into the eye of the storm and discern what fuels this energy.  Once there we have to begin to deal with the core thoughts and imaginations that helped create this tornadic storm.  When we expose the soul wound here and the ensuing intelligent and imaginative responses and submit them to the Holy Spirit we will find the storm will eventually disintegrate.  The more lies we have fed the storm with, the longer it may take to sap it of strength.
